Seeing Farther, Faster: Helping Relocating Employees Personalize Their Relocation Journey

When one of my clients challenged Cartus to develop a new and better way to personalize the relocation journey for their transferees and assignees, I knew we had an opportunity to create something truly special in the industry. During the discovery phase, we learned that their relocating employees—especially those moving for the first time—were often overwhelmed by what they needed to do and when.

What’s most important this week? What can I save till next week? What will the next two months look like? At best, the uncertainty was causing unnecessary stress. At worst, it was actually hurting job performance as employees transitioned to their new roles.

What they needed was some sort of timeline to provide a visual overview of the entire move. The timeline also had to be flexible enough to adapt as events were completed, dates adjusted, and new data became available. It was then that we realized how well such a tool would fit with our push to introduce predictive analytics to the global mobility industry.

Using Predictive Analytics to Improve the Employee Relocation Experience

Where our Leading Edge Analytics Practice, LEAP, was focused on helping organizations solve business problems with data, we could apply the same pattern recognition algorithms to our vast database of move scenarios and display their learnings graphically. Enter MovePro TimelineSM

Of course, predictive analytics is only as good as the data that powers it, which is where Cartus differentiates itself in the industry. Better yet, the more moves we put through the algorithm, the smarter it gets, because it’s learning all the time. The upshot is that, even if other relocation providers someday employ similar statistical models, they lack sufficiently robust data for “predictive viability”—a gap that will only grow larger with each passing year.

Beyond the predictive elements, we focused on achieving the right balance of form and function—making sure our design was intuitive, interactive, and dynamic.
