Let’s face it, you probably don't really want to clean your garage unless you are forced to, like, for instance, if you are getting ready to move. But with the fall months ahead of us, now is a good time to take on this daunting task. Cartus’ sister company, Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC, and HomeAdvisor, recently shared some great tips for helping you get organized in their blog post, How to Create an Organized Garage for Fall.
The post provides practical steps to help you get your garage in shape, and streamline and simplify your life in the process. In fact, these tips could be applied to many other areas of your home as well. You may not be relocating or moving any time soon, but these simple tips will help you stay ahead of the game!
Step #1 Categorize items: Take inventory of what to store and what to keep close at hand.
Step #2 Group similar items together: Keeping like things together can help you sort them and choose the appropriate storage solution.
Step #3 Let it go: Donate or discard any items that you are not using.
Step #4 Determine a layout: Once you have taken inventory, sorted, and decided what you are going to keep, and what you are going to donate, think about the best layout and location for your items before you start putting everything back.
Step #5 Install cabinets or purchase storage bins: Grouping your items together is a good start, but efficiently storing them will go a long way toward ensuring that your garage stays organized.
Step #6 Don’t try to do everything at once: Probably the biggest obstacle to taking on a project like this is that it seems too daunting to tackle. But if you break it down into steps, it will be more manageable, and you will be the proud owner of a clean and organized space…until next year at least.
